Guided Hikes at Haleakalä
National Park
Park
Naturalists will offer short hikes, talks and park orientation
in the Summit area daily between the hours of 9:15 a.m.
– 1 p.m. from October to December. Visitors are asked
to stop by the Visitor Center
for information on the day’s programs.
Guided hikes into The Nature Conservancy’s Waikamoi
Preserve in the summit
district of the park will be conducted every Monday and
Thursday, from 9 a.m. – Noon. These hikes are limited
to 12 people. Reservations may
be made one week in advance by calling the Headquarters
Visitor Center at 572-4459 between 8 a.m – 3 p.m.
The Kipahulu District provides daily naturalist talks and
walks between the hours of 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Kipahulu
also offers a range of cultural
demonstrations on Tuesday and Thursday from 12:30 p.m. –
3:30 p.m. Visitors are
asked to stop by the Kipahulu Visitor Center for information
on the day’s programs.

December 12 Solar
Water Heating Class
Learn
the basics of solar water heating by attending a free, one-hour
class offered by Maui Electric Company (MECO). The class,
co-sponsored by Maui Community College (MCC) will be held
from 6–7 p.m. in room 107 of the Laulima Building
at MCC.
The class will cover the priciples of of solar water heaters
and solar electric systems; purchasing a solar water heater;
financing options; solar water heater use; maintenance and
troubleshooting; and when to replace the system.

Your County with
Mayor Alan Arakawa
The
Thursday, Dec. 1 live broadcast of Maui County Mayor Alan
Arakawa’s public access television show, "Your
County with Mayor Alan Arakawa," will be re-broadcast
on AKAKU Channel 53 on Thursday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. and again
on Friday, Dec. 9, at 8 a.m.
The Mayor’s guests are Finance Director Kalbert Young
and Managing Director Keith Regan on a special one-year
anniversary edition of his live cable access television
show.
The hour-long program will discuss the circuit breaker credit,
real property homeowner's exemption, and DMVL improvements.
An update on the abandoned/derelict vehicle problem will
also be provided.
"Your County with Mayor Alan Arakawa," is produced

OED Open House
The
public is invited to the open house of the County of Maui's
Office of Economic Development (OED) at its new location,
One Main Plaza, Suite 305, on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 4–6
p.m.
The open house will give Maui County residents an opportunity
to talk with Economic Development Coordinator Lynn Araki-Regan
and her staff about the services provided by OED. Those
expected to be in attendance include the Mayor Alan Arakawa
and Managing Director Keith Regan.

Maui Talks TV
Nik-Hil
Productions, in association with Harold William Peltz Entertainment,
announces the the last two live shows of 2005 – the
eighty-fourth and eighty-fifth editions of MAUI
TALKS-TV, a live, public-affairs, call-in talk show,
on Akaku: Maui Community Television.
MAUI TALKS-TV will broadcast live on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at
7 p.m.. There will not be the usual rebraodcasts of this
show. Instead, it will be rebroadcast on Tuesday, Dec. 20
at 7 p.m. on Channel 53, again the following Tuesday, Dec.
27 at 7 p.m., and again the following Wednesday morning,
Dec. 28 at 8 a.m.
MAUI TALKS-TV is a weekly, one-hour Public Affairs talk
show, hosted by Nikhilananda, which is broadcast live every
other Tuesday evening. This show is then repeated
the following Tuesday evening and again the next Wednesday
morning. During the live taping, members of the
community are invited and encouraged to telephone into the
show at 873-3430, (888-577-6240 on Molokai and Lanai) and
comment upon various issues of the day.

Crossroads Maui
Akaku
Community Channel 53 “Crossroads Maui” will
present an hour long special program Wednesday December
14 at 7:00 p.m. about the effects of Depleted Uranium munitions
on troops and civilian populations in the Balkans, Afganistan
and two Gulf Wars. Special call in guest will be Gulf War
veteran and retired U.S. Army Major, Dr. Doug Rokke, the
U.S. authority on radiological weaponry disposal and leader
in the effort to address veterans health issues from exposure
to chemical, biological and radiological contamination and
Gulf War Syndrome now effecting more than 325,000 United
States veterans and uncounted civilian casualties in war
zones where depleted uranium munitions were used. Tune in
this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., AKAKU Television Channel 53
for this special Crossroads Maui program produced by Lance
Holter.

Maui Humane Society will bring its Mobile Pet Adoption to
the Lahaina Cannery Mall Sunday, December 18 from 11:00
a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
The Maui Humane Society is striving to reach its goal of
finding homes for 100 cats, 100 dogs, and 20 other pets
by the end of December.
