Making the best of a bad situation. Instead of fretting when their car broke down Sunday on the side Hana Highway, friends Karen Hargrove, 17, Viola Gaskell, 15, and Christina Haywood, 16, decided to soak up the sun. The three were headed home after spending the day at a waterfall in Haiku. A friend soon came to the girls' rescue.

New Saturday Programs At MiLC

The Maui individualized Learning Center (Sea of Dreams Foundation, Inc.) will have open registration for two new Saturday morning, small-group programs. Children will be exposed to an age-appropriate creative atmosphere that stimulates their desire to learn. Classes cost only a fraction of the price of individual tutoring, and run from 9 a.m. to noon at the Center on Lower Main in Wailuku.
“More and more youngsters, ages three to six, are eager to learn like in ‘real school’,” said director Nadine Newlight. “We call them our ‘Indigo Tots’ and this program was created especially for them.”
For students who need help with homework, MiLC’s new Saturday, small-group “Academic Advantage” classes offer students seven and older the opportunity to ask questions their regular teachers are too busy to answer. Same hours and tuition.
Maui individualized Learning Center specializes in helping students with distinctive learning styles to excel in academics. On Maui, MiLC is the recognized pioneer in tutoring, home school support and academic summer school. Their “Maui’s Best” one-on-one tutorials provide a custom-tailored curriculum for students from pre-kindergarten through college, either at home or on site in any subject, any day or time; their “Alternative Academic Year” program offers home schooling away from home, three mornings each week at their multi-media facility in Wailuku.
For more information or to schedule a visit, call Nadine Newlight at 244-6119 or visit MiLC on the Web at www.mauilearningcenter.com.
