Nik-Hil Productions, in association with Harold William Peltz Entertainment, announces the seventy-ninth edition of MAUI TALKS-TV, a live, public-affairs, call-in talk show, on Akaku: Maui Community Television.
MAUI TALKS-TV will broadcast live on Channel 53, on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. This show will be repeated the following Tuesday, October 4 at 7 p.m. and again the following Wednesday morning, October 5 at 8 a.m.
MAUI TALKS-TV is a weekly, one-hour Public Affairs talk show hosted by Nikhilananda. During live taping, members of the community are invited to telephone into the show at 873-3430 (888-577-6240 on Molokai and Lanai) and comment upon various issues of the day.

The Maui Coalition to End Abuse and the Maui Humane Society are presenting a conference on animal/domestic abuse in October with instructors from the Humane Society of the United States’ “First Strike Campaign.”
The Maui First Strike Conference will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Oct. 7 in the Maui Beach Hotel’s Elleair Ballroom. The $25 fee includes a continental breakfast, lunch and printed materials.The campaign focuses on the connection between animal cruelty and societal violence.
Speakers will include 2nd Circuit Family Court Judge Richard Bissen Jr.; Ginger Beckett, campaign manager for First Strike campaign; and Eric Sakach, director of the West Coast Regional Office of the Humane Society of the United States.
Presentations at the conference will provide information on indicators of animal cruelty that may be occurring in a home, and clues that may indicate when domestic abuse is occurring.
The conference will also assist professionals and the public in establishing a local network with a neighborhood of citizens working with the judiciary, animal protection workers and social service professionals. The conference will include training, information on intervention strategies and options for community education.
Registration and payments are due Sept. 27.

A public information meeting will be held Tuesday, October 4 at the DHHL conference room from 10 a.m.–11:30 a.m. for all Molokai residents and business owners, septic/cesspool and greasetrap owners.
Curtis Crabbe of Oma‘oma‘o Moloka‘i and Dr. Albert Royster of Septic USA in Florida will be holding a seminar on proper care and mainteance of septic/cesspool and greasetraps.
Seminar includes a free drawing at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. for pumps, filters and bio-bugs.
