October – December

Guided Hikes at Haleakalä National Park

Park Naturalists will offer short hikes, talks and park orientation in the Summit area daily between the hours of 9:15 a.m. – 1 p.m. from October to December. Visitors are asked to stop by the Visitor Center
for information on the day’s programs.
Guided hikes into The Nature Conservancy’s Waikamoi Preserve in the summit
district of the park will be conducted every Monday and Thursday, from 9 a.m. – Noon. These hikes are limited to 12 people. Reservations may
be made one week in advance by calling the Headquarters Visitor Center at 572-4459 between 8 a.m – 3 p.m.
The Kipahulu District provides daily naturalist talks and walks between the hours of 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Kipahulu also offers a range of cultural
demonstrations on Tuesday and Thursday from 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Visitors are
asked to stop by the Kipahulu Visitor Center for information on the day’s programs.

Maui Talks TV

Nik-Hil Productions, in association with Harold William Peltz Entertainment, announces the eighty-second edition of MAUI TALKS-TV, a live, public-affairs, call-in talk show, on Akaku: Maui Community Television.
MAUI TALKS-TV will broadcast live on Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m., then rebroadcast on Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. on Channel 53 and again the following Wednesday morning, Nov. 30 at 8 a.m.
This show will also be repeated Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. on Channel 53 and again the following Wednesday morning, Dec. 7 at 8 a.m.
MAUI TALKS-TV is a weekly, one-hour Public Affairs talk show, hosted by Nikhilananda, which is broadcast live every other Tuesday evening.  This show is then repeated the following Tuesday evening and again the next Wednesday morning.  During the live taping, members of the community are invited and encouraged to telephone into the show at 873-3430, (888-577-6240 on Molokai and Lanai) and comment upon various issues of the day.

Starting a Business on Maui

This seminar on Wednesday, November 23 from 12 noon to 1 p.m.at the Maui County Business Resource Center (MCBRC) across from iHop in the Maui Mall, is a free workshop lectured by Anna K. Ribucan of the county Office of Economic Development The seminar covers general information and requirements for starting a business in Maui County. Handouts, Websites and other helpful information included. For further information, call the Business Resource Center at 873-8247. Attendees are asked to bring their own lunches.

Your County with Mayor Alan Arakawa

The Thursday, Nov. 17 live broadcast of Maui County Mayor Alan Arakawa’s public access television show, "Your County with Mayor Alan Arakawa," will be re-broadcast on AKAKU Channel 53 on Thursday, Nov. 24 at 7 p.m. and again on Friday, Nov. 25, at 8 a.m.
The Mayor’s special guests are Ka Hale A Ke Ola Executive Director Charlie Ridings and Captain Glenn Miyahira of the Maui Police Department.
The hour-long program will discuss the issue of homelessness and what is being done in addressing the problem.
"Your County with Mayor Alan Arakawa," is produced twice monthly. For further information, call 270-7710.

South Maui Kiwanis Meeting

The Kiwanis Club of South Maui will meet at Stella Blues on Friday, Nov. 25 from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30a.m.
Guest Speaker will be Cynthia Fox with The Digital Bus.


November 28

Peace Pole Dedication

The County of Maui and the Maui Chinese Club announced that on Monday, Nov. 28 at 4:30 p.m., there will be a dedication of a Peace Pole which has been erected at the Sun Yat Sen Park in Kula. Mayor Alan Arakawa will attend the ceremony and dedicate the peace pole as part of the 2005 Sister Cities Festival and Maui County Centennial Celebration.

5th Annual Arabesque Trunk Show

Solar Water Heating Class

Learn the basics of solar water heating by attending a free, one-hour class offered by Maui Electric Company (MECO). The class, co-sponsored by Maui Community College (MCC) will be held from 6–7 p.m. in room 107 of the Laulima Building at MCC.
The class will cover the priciples of of solar water heaters and solar electric systems; purchasing a solar water heater; financing options; solar water heater use; maintenance and troubleshooting; and when to replace the system.
